Let me first say that you all have been doing a great job
masterminding, organizing, and keeping up on the production of the
book. I've been so impressed with your enthusiasm, professionalism and
well, talent! You guys rock!
So, I've been doing a little
research and I have some bad news and some good news (I hope). O.K.,
bad news first: WRITE IT WRITES POETRY cannot be published on paper by
Scholastic or any other publisher.
Ouch. I know.
reason is this: there are strict privacy rules protecting the users of
this site. They are rules that protect your identities from the general
public and even from us. Because you and we are so isolated, we can't
exchange personal information. And, unfortunately, some personal
information is required when you publish a book. Formal permissions--
like contracts-- have to be signed when you do something as serious
(and permanent) as getting published in print. Your parents would all
have to sign-off because you are minors and there is no way to open
that line of communication.
But don't despair! All your hard work has not be for naught! I have two consolations to offer you:
You can all be published on the Write It publishing site. All the users
have to do is submit their poem with a message in the NOTE category
that it comes from the book. Maybe you all can decide the exact working
of the message together.
2. (This is the one that I'm hoping
to work out because it would be sooooo cool, but will take some work on
my end) What about a special link on the Critics Picks page that has a
link to all the poems in "Write It Writes Poetry"? I'm hoping that we
could arrange it in the order that you all would have chosen to lay it
out, with the prologue as the first link.
I'm so sorry to have
to burst the happy publishing bubble, but I hope that you guys can keep
working on the project with slightly altered goals. You really have put
such great effort into it and it would be a shame to see it go to
Keep writing and thinking of great projects like this!
