Hi guys--Let me first say that you all have been doing a great job masterminding, organizing, and keeping up on the production of the book. I've been so impressed with your enthusiasm, professionalism and well, talent! You guys rock! So, I've been doing a little research and I have some bad news and some good news (I hope). O.K., bad news first: WRITE IT WRITES POETRY cannot be published on paper by Scholastic or any other publisher. Ouch. I know. The reason is this: there are strict privacy rules protecting the users of this site. They are rules that protect your identities from the general public and even from us. Because you and we are so isolated, we can't exchange personal information. And, unfortunately, some personal information is required when you publish a book. Formal permissions-- like contracts-- have to be signed when you do something as serious (and permanent) as getting published in print. Your parents would all have to sign-off because you are minors and there is no way to open that line of communication. But don't despair! All your hard work has not be for naught! I have two consolations to offer you:1. You can all be published on the Write It publishing site. All the users have to do is submit their poem with a message in the NOTE category that it comes from the book. Maybe you all can decide the exact working of the message together. 2. (This is the one that I'm hoping to work out because it would be sooooo cool, but will take some work on my end) What about a special link on the Critics Picks page that has a link to all the poems in "Write It Writes Poetry"? I'm hoping that we could arrange it in the order that you all would have chosen to lay it out, with the prologue as the first link. I'm so sorry to have to burst the happy publishing bubble, but I hope that you guys can keep working on the project with slightly altered goals. You really have put such great effort into it and it would be a shame to see it go to waste. Keep writing and thinking of great projects like this! Best, Write It Mod

We should try for what the Mod said, though! I have a poem published on that thing already (unrelated to book). It could totally work! I like the Critic's Pick idea too.
It stinks so bad we can't publish it. I've been working so hard on the formatting.
But we could do that!

So anyway, what do you guys think? Should I keep formatting the book and stuff, so we can do that? It's on hold for me now, all the new poems aren't in the book yet...

Dang, I was worried about something like that happening! :(

But, I do like your suggestions for alternate ways of getting "published"! I especially like the 2nd one, involving the Critics Picks page... That would be really, really cool! All the people that have worked on the book will have to discuss it, but I definitely want to try and do that one! :smileyvery-happy:

Thanks for the heads-up and ideas!

If publishing in print doesn't work maybe we can "self-publish" (sort of) on fictionpress. Write It Writes Poetry can have their own little account, and whoever submits their poem can have it posted there. Personal identity will still be kept, and everyone will also have a page to themselves. And maybe if the Moderator would make a link to that page of ours then everyone would be able to view it! :)

Thanks for your idea, but we can't like to any site outside of Scholastic. So... darn.

I guess keep formatting for now, until we figure out what exactly is going on...

I'm not so much good in poetry, but here's one;

Snowflakes fall, snowflakes melt,
Even though they're all around!
If you blow it onto a boy you like,
Then he might like you back!

That was a dumb one, right? But never say that to one of u parents though! Been there, done that!
Now even though it's me that is dumb saying that now.

Our Earth

                 By birthteeth

The Earth is ours to enjoy
For every little girl and boy.
But we must always be aware.
That all its beauty we must share
With all the children yet to come,
Who want to laugh and play and run
Around the trees and in the fields.

So we must keep our planet free
From messy trash and debris
With air that's clean and fresh and clear
For all to breathe from year to year.
We must never ever abuse
Our sweet Earth that's ours to use.

All ages are welcome on Write It. If you're serious about your writing and willing to share your work with others and hear their constructive criticism, and do the same for others, you're in the right place!

Hi everyone! I am new to this and I just posted something. It was about how I am nervous someone my steel my poem, but I really want it to be "published" or ya know "out-there". So I don't know if I should post one to you, see if you can add it in. I also might not be on here a lot so I probably won't respond right away if anyone responds to me. clueisland6

Buddy

He throws his head

High strung—

Not the right word

For me

The word sums up

Skinny

Nervous

He is

Bold

Strong

Fast

Aggressive

Graceful

Proud

A broad blaze, white as snow

Two glowing three-inch socks

Shining red sorrel hide

Long shaggy forelock

Huge frame

For me

He is the best

Wonderful

Beautiful

Horse.

by me

P.S. It doesn't have to rhyme, it's freeverse poetry

So.....This is poetry? Cool. Here's a thing, a very simple thing, can be used anywhere...

"Roses are red,

Violets are blue,

Mix 'em together and it makes purple too!"

(Last line you can make anything up, like "I hope you know that I love you!")
