HELLO! We are hosting another super-awesome readathon! It doesn’t matter what you read – the goal is just to read for the whole 4 hours if you can. Here are a few questions/challenges to get you started on your 4-hour reading marathon.

Introduction: Tell everyone three random things about yourself.
Is this your first readathon?
What book or books will you be reading today? What are your goals for today? (#of books or pages to read?)
Do you have any specific snacks ready?
Describe the place where you will be reading.

Reply to these questions if you are here!

You made it through the first hour. Y’all are doing great! Here are the Hour 2 challenges:

Random Sentence. Post your favorite sentence from the page you are reading right now.

Writing Sprint: If you were sent to the North Pole RIGHT NOW on a top-secret spy mission and had to bring a character from the book you’re reading right now with you, who would you pick? Why?

I'm reading Sisters by Raina Telgemeier. It's a graphic novel so it's pictures and word, but my favorite drawing so far is "Anatomy of a Road Trip: Stuff, Amara's Wild Kingdom, Raina's Radical Zone, Little Brother Section, and Mom's Corner." It shows all the things that each person brings in the car for their road trip.

Oh my goodness! I was totally caught up in my book and forgot to post the Hour 3 challenges! Here they are.

Adventure must-have: What object, real or fantasy, would you absolutely need to bring with you on an adventure? A flashlight? Cloak of invisibility? Lightsaber? Wand? Map?

If you went to school with the main character of the book you’re reading right now, do you think you would be friends?

Location change. Change your reading location to someplace different, unusual, or just somewhere you have never read before. The closet, the bathtub, outside? Be sure to let your parents know where you are!

I can't change my location because, well. . . I'm at work so  . . .yeah.

My adventure must have is definitely a book of magic spells so any time I need anything, i can just look it up in my book and do the spell for it.

I would love to be friends with Raina in my book Sisters. I feel so sorry for her having to deal with her younger siblings. I'm an older sister too so i can relate.

Thanks! I love them too!

I'd probably take a map.

I would definitely be friends with Geronimo.

Yes, I recommend the Humphrey book because it's about a hamster that goes on little adventures in the classroom while helping out his classmates. It's interesting to read.

(Hey, StudyMath--I LOVE the Bean Trees! Such a great book!)

I'm going to try to catch up to y'all. I'm reading Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Titan's Curse. Very excited!

Hour 4 of the readathon! Yeaaaah! We’re in the home stretch! Here are your challenges for the final hour of the readathon today.

Cooking challenge: If you are getting hungry, go get a snack that one of your book characters would love. What is it?

Fashion challenge: make an outfit that one of the characters in your book would wear. A cape? Hiking boots? Snorkel gear? Get creative! Wear it for the rest of the day…if you dare!

If you could switch places with any book character, who would it be and why?

In a movie version of the book you're reading, who would you cast as the main characters? It’s totally cool if a movie has already been made of the book—you can still share your ideas of who should have been cast if you think someone else would have been better!

I can't get a snack right now, but if i could it would be CHEESE! Cheese is Dak's favorite food. it's almost the only thing he eats.  :D

If I could switch places with any book character . . . I don't know. Maybe Hermione. Going to Hogwarts would be awesome! Or Annabeth getting to ride on the Argo II would be soooo amazing!

For a snack, my character (Raina from Sisters) would get Pringles and Dr. Pepper, but I am more a chocolate and tea girl so I am going to get my own kind of snack.

@Scotland: I always think how cool it would be to go to Hogwarts, but then I think how dangerous Hermione's life is - fighting trolls and breaking into Gringott's, fighting dark wizards, and all that. I'm just not brave enough to actually switch places with her. But I would love to be best friends with her!

Dreamdetermined, cheese is the BEST--what kind of cheese is your favorite?

I think Percy Jackson would probably appreciate a cookie. His adventures seem really, really stressful, and cookies always ease stress (at least, in my opinion)!

Hmmm. I'd probably switch places with Luna Lovegood. Her life seems kind of rad, and yeah, it'd be really cool to go to Hogwarts!

It’s almost time for the readathon to end. Thanks for joining us. I had so much fun! How did you do?

Did you read for the whole 4 hours?

Which hour was the hardest for you?

How many pages did you read? How many chapters? How many books??

Which book did you enjoy most?

Which did you enjoy least?

What was your favorite part about the readathon?

How likely are you to participate in another STACKS Read-a-thon?

Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the next Read-a-thon?
