  1.  “How do I start a new thread?”
    1. Go to the Board that you’d like to post in and click the "New Message" button on the left side of the screen, above where all the messages are.
  2.  “Why can’t I see my message??”/ “Why can’t I see replies to my thread?”
    1. Messages will show up after the moderators have read and approved them.  If you don’t leave the site, you can see your own message even if it hasn’t been approved yet, but no one else can see it.

The same goes for replies to your message – wait for them to be approved!

As a courtesy, please wait 48 hours (2 days) until contacting your moderator about your message not showing up.  Messages will usually show up faster than that.
  3. “Why wasn’t my post approved?”
    1. Your post could have been deleted for violating any of the rules in the Announcements section:

§   No last names, schools or cities (states are okay); • age/grade is okay but no birthdays;

§   No being mean/rude--or cursing;

§   No posting your email address or links to other websites.

  1.  “Can I become a moderator?”
    1. Sorry, no – moderators are always adults that are hired by Scholastic.com.
  2. “How do I report an abusive message?”
    1. There is a drop-down menu Options above each message.  Click on that and choose “Report Abuse to a Moderator”.  You should get a pop-up, and you also have the option of adding a comment.  Let us know why you think the message should be deleted.  Then click the "Notify Moderator" button.
  3. “How do you get promoted to a higher rank?”
    1. The rank is based on a combination of posts, views, logins and minutes online. You have to meet the requirements for each category before you are promoted to the next level. Here are the levels:

      New to the Community
      Rookie Visitor
      Visitor
      Regular visitor
      Frequent Visitor
      Contributor
      Regular Contributor
      Frequent contributor
      Superior contributor
Community leader--this one is super hard to get to because you have to have a message rating of 4!
  4. “How do I change my icon?”
    1. Click on the “My Icon” link at the very top of the page and you’ll see all the different options.
  5. "How can I edit my profile?"
    1. Profiles are not editable because we can’t share too much personal information on these boards.  It's really important to us that these boards remain safe for everyone!
  6. “How do you change the font color and style on here?"
    1. Go to 'graphical editor' to the right of the 'submit post' button.
Note: The ‘graphical editor’ only shows up if you are using Internet Explorer as your web browser.

For smileys, use the graphical editor, or you can do these shortcuts, just delete the space in between:

To Zanopotato,

You can tell me how to edit your post, and I can do it for you.  I can also delete a post from you and then you can re-write it.

I don't think you can change the rating.

On the Reading Buzz, do we have to talk about a specific thing? Or do we have to talk about anything?

PS: I know you're not the moderator of reading buzz, but I just want to know.

Hi saveearth29,

Once I accept your message, I am the only one who can edit it.  You can certainly send me an e-mail telling me how you want it edited OR I can delete the message and you can write a new one in its place.

Regarding your other question, I think there is a reader's forum on the Buzz Boards.  I'm not sure what the guidelines are, so check with the moderator.  Does anyone else know the answer for this??

Moderator Elise, my message is not showing up. The one that's named ''tip #4 to let the Earth be green''. How come that's not showing up?

Hi saveearth29,

I'm not sure what happened.  If it contained too much personal info, I may have deleted it.  Otherwise, it may have just been a computer glitch.  Will you re-submit it?

Thanks,
Elise

Hi MissPie977,

Most scientists believe global warming is happening, and the Nobel Peace Prize was just awarded to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Al Gore for their work on spreading the word about man-made climate change (global warming).

There is a lot of scientific evidence to support the existence of global warming.  To learn more about this evidence, you can watch the documentary movie, An Inconvenient Truth or check your library for a good book about global warming such as The Down-to-Earth Guide to Global Warming.

Still, lots of people think that global warming doesn't exist.  I hope this message board will help to change of few of those minds.
