I walked down the gold bordered halls, my heart pounding in my chest. The mantle that was tied over my back gave my apparent jail pass some protection from the cold of the hall. How was I discovered? And how was being genetically altered a crime?

I kept walking until I came to a pair of golden doors. The gold shimmered in the candlelight, seeming to flash a foreboding message. I took a deep breath and pushed the doors open.

Nothing. A dark room and an empty space. I cocked my ears and listened. Something was wrong. I could tell. The room smelled stale, like at least 15 loaves of bread had been dropped in the room and left there for at least a month. I listened again. All was quiet as the grave.

Then from the corner of the dark room, there came a huge growl. A face of a huge growling dog loomed over my head. His growls made the once sturdy ground beneath me vibrate threateningly. I untied the mantle covering the back part of me and watched it fall to the floor.

Red, batlike wings unfurled from where the cloth used to be. Dragon's wings. I spread my wings in the air, touched the ground with my hands, and got ready to fight.

So...hope you all like my part!
