The following poem was submitted to a youth violence contest that I participated in. It shows how youth violence effects people and why people join in on the youth violence. Please tell me your view on the poem and how it made you feel!

Sticks and Stones
Sticks and Stones may break my bones,
But violence is always aimed at me.

Slap in the face,
Kick in the shin,
Profanity here,
Profanity there.

These are the things,
That you believe you are.

I went home to my house late at night,
Arm broken,
Sprained ankle,
Told to stay away from harm.

But it wasnâ  t the ankle or the arm,
That hurt the most,
It was my soul.

Maybe itâ  s their poverty,
Maybe itâ  s their gangs,
Sometimes though,
I believe it is me.

Walked in the school hallway with my purse,
Was going to buy,
A snack or two.

Pushed against a locker,
I lost thirty dollars.
Think it is because.
I am so different.

Stitches all across my face,
Punches thrown up in the air,
Dodged a bullet aimed at me,
Still my heart pleads for safety.

Sticks and Stones may break my bones,
But words still hurt the most.

Pick at this,
Pick at that,
Why who knows?
Maybe it is my clothes,
Maybe it is my face.

Kids are,
The under-estimated,
Feed on power,
For cruelty

Over at school,
I was picked on,
Because I was more intelligent than the others.

It caused me harm,
Made me cry,
Ditched school,
Always Sick,
All for what?
Youth Violence.

Youth Violence,
It hurts the most,
I want it to stop,
I need it to stop,

Going to visit the principal,
See if she will be my pal,
Maybe we can start
To stop,
Stop the growing plague at hand.

Told all my friends,
Teachers too,
We set up a group after school.

Offered a place,
Higher up,
Wanted to join,
In the last punch,
To beat up a kid for some money,
To be in place,
With Prosperity.

Said, â  Noâ Â
And left.
They thought I was a coward,
But I thought it through,
For a while,
They were the cowards at heart.

No more punches,
No more Stitches,
Never again will youth violence cross my course.

Sticks and Stones may break my bones,
But Youth Violence never touches me.

Thank you for reading my poem I hope you enjoyed it!
