FINALLY!!! :) We have a Rick Riordan board (well, actually, it's just a topic)!!! This is better than not having anything at all, right?

I've only just strted the first Percy Jackson book and I haven't read any other books by Rick Riordan, but I'm REALLY interested in the books right now. Maybe I'll become a super-fan like the many kids that are gonna post stuff on here!

Cool! Nice to meet you Brian!
I love all of the books by Rick Riordan! I just havn't read the Kane Chronicles! Do you think that someday, us STACKer's can do a live chat with him? That would be so cool, or at least a live chat about the books he writes! If I were you, I would read the Percy jackson and the Olympians Series first, then the Lost Hero! I can't wait until the Son of Neptune comes out! I am really excited! We all hope to get to know you on the STACK's and maybe after summer, you can come on again!

Rick Riordan is an AMAZING author. His Percy Jackson series were one of the first books I have read in English and I got hooked after the first chapter.  It is like a movie is playing in my head while I read! Anabeth is my favourite character, because she is smart, confident and strong. (Also, cause she likes Percy! :smileywink: )  He is the one to blame for making me interested in Greek myths and almost believing inn them! :smileywink: I have read all the Percy Jackson books ever since 2010. I have also finished The Lost Hero, and I can NOT wait till the second book comes out!!! I am almost done The Red Piramyd and have already got the 2nd book waiting for me... I hope he keeps writing, especially about myths (Preferebely Greek ones!) He is also one of my favourite authors of all time!!! Keep on writing, Rick Riordan!! You are THE BEST!!!

I'm a HUGE Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus fan!!! They're AWESOME books! I just like how Rick Riordan adds humor to his writing... it's not all serious. I mean, a good book should have good jokes in it, am I right? :P

Hi everyone, Brian here! I'm excited to see so many people posting on the Rick Riordan thread. But I'm even more excited about this news: I have a preview to Book #2 in the Heroes of Olympus series!!

Excited to see what will happen to Percy Jackson and the next generation of heroes, you can get a taste of Son of Neptune here.

What do you guys think! You are excited for the next book? Do you have predictions how Percy will get out of his newest predicament? Post and let me know!

The preview is so good! I think I like Percy better in third person...I wonder who the other chapters will be about. I still want to know what exactly he remembers about Annabeth. I think I liked it better when it was Jason who'd lost his memory, though, because then you were getting his old memories at the same time that he was getting them back. Here, you already know everything and you just want him to remember the stuff already.

Favorite Kane Chronicles book: The Throne of Fire
Favorite Heroes of Olympus book: um...The Lost Hero, since that's the only one released so far...

Have you ever noticed that all of Rick Riordan's books start with the word 'The'?

What's everyone's favorite PJO pairings? I'm all for Percy/Annabeth, but I would also like to see Rachel/Nico. I know it sounds strange, but it just seems right for me. I also do not like Jason/Piper I think it's sort of predictable and boring, and Piper could do better than an amnesiac who still recovering his memory.

What about you guys? I have a lot of fanfiction characters so I usually pair those with real PJO characters, but I won't talk about them here 'cause it'll get confusing.

To me, Rick Riordan is the most amazing writer that ever lived!  His main characters are so loveable, and his enemies are some of the most hated beings in my mind.  To be a good writer, you need good characters.  Riordan definitely understands that.  I love to write, so reading Riordan's books really encourages me to do my best and create the best characters possible.

My favorite book by him is The Lightning Thief.  I've read books 1-3, and they're all amazing, but I don't think my favorite Rick Riordan book will ever change.  One thing I particullarly like about his books are that each book is the next year in Percy's life.  You get to watch Percy grow up, and see him turn from a 12 year-old boy, scared, upset, etc., to a 16 year-old hero, ready to save the world, no matter what it takes.  I love Rick Riordan's writing style.  It's absolutely amazing.

My favorite character has to be Percy, but Annabeth definitely falls second in line.  I love their personalities.  My friends and I have been trying to make a TV show based on the series, and I play Annabeth.  I hope to make Annabeth come to life, and show people what I think of her.

Riordan said in an interview that he never intended The Lightning Thief to become a book.  It was simply a bedtime story for his oldest son, who encouraged him to write it down.  He did, and look at him now!  I hope to be a writer like Rick Riordan some day.  His books are so amazingly unique!  There will never be a book better than any book that Rick Riordan has written, never a character more loveable than Percy Jackson, never an enemy more hateable than Luke Castellan, never a writer more amazing than Rick Riordan.

Shriek!!!!!! Oh, god, I feel sooooooo guilty because for months I've been campaigning for a Rick Riordan board and now it's sorta come true (even though I don't really like the idea of a Rick Riordan thread) but I've only commented once on this. Ahhhhh...anyways, I would put my Rick riordan sign off right now but as some of you may have heard, my computer got busted by a virus, a bunch of stuff happened, I cancelled the stacks club (sorry guys!!! Now I really feel guilty), and I haven't really been on the Reading Buzz.
But anyways, whatever, I'm glad to be back. :smileyhappy:

Hi Brian! I LOVE Rick Riordan!!!!! It stinks that there isn't a board for his books though. Anyways, my favorites are PJO, The Kane Chronicals, and the Heros of Olympus. I am currenty reading Mockingjay, the third book in the wonderful Hunger Games Trilogy.

What can I say? The person before me said just about everything there was to say about how great the author of Kane Chronicles, Percy Jackson, Hero's of Olympus and a few 39 clues books really is.

About two years ago I went ot the library and was trying to find a new book. I ran my finger across the spines, failing to find one that interested me. I saw the Lightning Thief and paused for a second. It looked ok but I wasn't sure. Carelessly I took it off the shelf and put it on my pile of books. Later that night I was sitting in my bed and reading a truly magical book. I didn't but it down for hours and when I was done I knew that I would get to know Percy Jackson and his friends very well as I scrambled for the next book in the series.

I just want to say thanks to Rick Riordan who came up with such a great story that no matter how many  times you read it it is always just as exciting and electrifying. And thanks to his son for telling his dad to write the now famous story down. All his story's are my favorite and I choose not to even try to single on out as the best because they all are.

I can't wait for it to come out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love all of Rick Riordan's books!!!! I read the whole Percy Jackson series in about 4 days!!!!(im a ravid reader:-) I own all Percy Jackson, all Kane, and the Lost Hero. I reread them over and over. My favorite book is between The Lightning Thief and The Lost Hero. I love how he brings in the description so well that even after that book, you are never left in the dark. I believe he gives a clear description of everybody, what they do, and how they react to certain situations. Its more fun to read that because you almost get to grow up with them and see how they change and what steps they take to do it!!! I just love everything about Rick Riordan!!!

Here are some random The Throne of Fire signature quotes! I'm bored so that's why I'm posting them.

“I didn’t ask for the Speedo Patrol!”

-Sadie, in The Throne of Fire

“Bloody Egyptian Gods in their bloody Revealing swimwear. This is why we don’t do magic.”

-Gramps, in The Throne of Fire

A Proud Ravenclaw

Member of the Mysterious Benedict Society

And An Ekat

“We did it, we bashed them, wee Potter’s the ???, and Voldy’s gone moldy, so now let’s have FUN!

-Peeves, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

“Why blend in, when you could stick out?”

OMGs (Oh my gods ;) ) You should read the Percy Jackson series! It is the best series ever. There's also Heroes of Olympus, which is the follow-up series of Percy Jackson. It's also pretty cool. I also really like the Kane Chronicles and the 39 clues. I love everything by Rick Riordan, but Percy Jackson puts everything else to shame. :smileyhappy:

I think Percy Jackson is too perfect. He has no flaws. Perfect Larry. And the "flaws" he has:

1. He has dyslexia ...so he can read ancient greek
2. He has ADHD ...so he has good battle reflexes
3. He's too loyal (supposably his "fatal" flaw). Too loyal? Loyalty is good, not a flaw. Loyalty makes you look good. ("Oh look at Percy, he's so loyal!"). I also seriously doubt he'd destroy  the world to save a friend. That's not a flaw. That's just pure idiocy.
4. He's sort of stupid sometimes, not thinking and acting like an idiot. Seeing that I already dislike Percy Jackson, this makes me happy. But EVERYONE is like this sometimes. If everyone does it, it's really not a flaw. It's human.
5. He can't do special powers like healing and he's a bad archer. I think it balances it out when he throws tital waves at people or makes fish attack them. Besides, considering he's never needed to use those skills in the books, I don't think it matters.

Comparing Percy to the other two famous main characters, Katniss and Harry, would help show his cardboard perfectness:

Harry Potter:
1. He has glasses, he's blind as a bat without them
2. Lot's of magic challenges him
3. He has a REALLY bad temper, he's always blowing up infront of people he loves, hurting relationships
4. He is a bad people person
5. Voldemort can torture him by tapping into his mind via his scar (that can cause physical pain, nightmares, ect.)

Katniss (be ready):
1. Not a good people person
2. She honestly isn't that strong
3. In the third book, she basically goes insane
4. She's unpleasent to be around
5. She's never on time for anything
6. She doesn't take instructions from anyone, even her squad leader in the 3rd book, ultimently damaging and hurting herself and others.
7. Her life is messed up. She get's nightmares every night.
8. Probably more I'm forgeting. I'm just too lazy to keep going.

You see? AGH. Percy Jackson is TOO perfect!

So you'd rather read a book about an imortal unicorn who has the ability to explode the universe and get rid of all the bad guys by just snapping their fingers? BORING. I think you're wrong, people  CAN be too perfect. It's really anoying if you ask me.

Perhaps, you are referring to my license to kill... being revoked. I'd tell you why but then I'd have to kill you... which I can't do because my license to kill was revoked.

I've already written novels before, and all of my main characters had flaws. Doesn't it just seem annoying to you? It's VERY annoying to me, because other authors work so hard to make their character's realistic and here comes this COMPLETELY and TOTALLY FAKE main character.

Feel free to comment. But don't rate this a one because you love PJ so much. You should actually READ AND UNDERSTAND the message before you think of rating.

FINALLY. Someone here agrees with me! And I can't stand Jason. He's too perfect. You'd think Riordan would've learned. Though I'm happy Carter and Sadie (Red Pyramid) have flaws. And so do Dan and Amy (39 Clues). Something about Camp Halfblood seems too perfect.

I think Rick Riordan is pretty cool. There are better fantasy books out there though.

DEFINETLY. Like The Hunger Games! (Katniss- flawed character) Or Harry Potter! (Harry- flawed also)

Perhaps, you are referring to my license to kill... being revoked. I'd tell you why but then I'd have to kill you... which I can't do because my license to kill was revoked.

well, i really do see your point. he is kinda perfect.but, let's admit it. we all model some of our characters after what we would like to be like. as a freind of mine says, "your characters are you in a perfect dimension. if you add lots of flaws, you are realistic. this is not bad." and being extra loyal can be bad. can be. i am not defending p.j, i am just throwing this out there. and p.j's big flaw is his kind. i mean, would'nt it be complicated to add real-life flaws? and he has another one: he can be bossy.

Good argument, but Percy was never really bossy. Maybe once or twice but a flaw has to be reacuring to be an actual flaw.

Percy Jackson is awesome!!! I am obsessed with Annabeth and can't wait for Olympian Week! I also love the Kane Chronicles, but Percy Jackson is soooo much better!
