body Each year I have the students make a 100th Day of School Creation. I include this problem solving assignment with their weekly homework. Here is a sample letter that I send to the parents:

Dear Parents,
Our 100th day of school is on Friday, February 9th. It is a kindergarten tradition to celebrate it in grand syle. I have many hands-on activities planned for the students to engage in on this special day. To begin the 100th day of school, I have the students present their 100's creations to the class. Your child is to collect and count 100 items. He/she is to arrange and display the 100 items in an interesting and creative way. The items may range from golf tees to barbie shoes to marshmallows. Brainstorm different items with your child. I hope you and your child have fun with this problem solving activity. If you need ideas or would like to see pictures of past 100 day of school creations, come on in!!! The am class will be presenting their 100th day of school creations at 8:00am. The pm class will be presenting their 100th day of school creations at 12:10pm. We would love for you to join in on all the fun!!! Any questions??? Please let me know!
Very truly,
Ms. Spillett
