Yes. I think it's great. She is an only child & I believe she needs the interaction with the other children. We go to church & the library & I do things with her constantly wanting to her to have all the opportunities possible. I still don't think it's enough. At her preschool they also offer 3 & 4 yr. old soccer. She loves it & looks forward to not only going to school but also seeing her friends every Sat.She has an absolutely wonderful teacher & her class has 8 children/2 adults.
She does go to a Christian school but, I still think it would be very beneficial for the child.

I struggle with the same issue with my three year old, whether or not to put him in preschool this year or just let him wait and have one year (if at all).  We spend a lot of time doing things together and apart, we go to the library where he is enrolled in a storytime without me while my daughter and I play outside, or park district classes without me.  Together, we  do a lot of activities also. We go to dollar bowling days, meet up groups with the church,  the park and nature centers.  We have "preschool days" together, we pick a subject usually directed by him, and follow up with stories, a craft, and some interenet videos.  I love this time, and we have saved so much money.  And I can tell you, whenever we are in a group setting he adapts very well with other kids...and never really misbehaves.  I visited several preschools, and during my observation noticed kids acting out a lot (which never happens in library classes/crafts).   10 kids, one teacher, it is too be expected.  And I have seen my sister struggle with her son picking up bad behavior at preschool. So its hard for me to think he "needs" that enviornment to develop. Boils down to the same old thing, its starts with the parents first.

My three kids are now in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. All three attended preschool. I was a gung-ho mom when my oldest was 3 and signed him up for preschool. He has a summer birthday and we started him in kindergarten after his 5th birthday, so he ended up spending 3 yrs in preschool. Way too long!!!  My second child attended 2 years, and my third only 1 year, which I now feel was enough.

At the time I was a stay-at-home mom and spent most of my time playing and caring for my kids. This was also valuable learning for them. By the time they entered preschool they basically knew everything they were going to be taught already, as well as what the kindergarten classes were learning. But the one year of preschool did serve to socialize them more, an important aspect to their development.

If I had to do it over, I would send each child to preschool only 1 year and keep them home with me longer.

Yes!!  It is a worthwhile experience for the children.  They learn that they have day to day responsibilities i.e. by simply going to "school".  They learn social interaction with other children and adults.  They learn to listen to their teachers.  All of these things they NEED to know by the time they enter Kindergarten, or else...the K teacher will have to take time from the class to teach these things.  Transition to Kindergarten is tough enough, give them some help by sending them to PreK!  I strongly recommend it!!!

My oldest son did not attend preschool. He was born missing 2/3 of his small intestine. requiring him to take medications up to 5 years old. So any preschool I was open to put him in were specialized ones and way too expensive. He is in Kindergarten now and doing VERY well. His teacher tells me that he is on the same level as children who went to preschool. And even above some children who attended preschool. I think it depends on the time you have. I sat down with my son and did preschool activities and had my fiends children over often to help him socialize. If you don't have that time to do so, preschool is a very good option.
Although I have seen from many children who went to preschool, vs. the ones who did not, that preschool children are often more misbehaved. They often pick up bad habits from other children at a very impressionable age. But as long as you're on top of any concerns it's fine.

Yes, my 4-yr-old attends daycare with a preschool curriculum. She loves it and so do I! She has a loving, very experienced teacher who keeps the kids busy with fun projects all day (plus there is room for free play with plenty of great toys and art materials). I think she is learning a lot both academically and socially, and adjusting to kindergarten will be easy for her.

Why or why not? Is it, or was it, a valuable experience?
